“Alma y Fuego”: Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra to Debut New Album in June

On April 17, the official announcement was made for Alma y Fuego (Soul and Fire), the latest recording project from Maestro Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela. This vibrant production features stellar collaborations with Spanish singer Pasión Vega and pianist Javier Perianes. The album is scheduled for worldwide release on June 12 under the Platoon label.


The record, which has already teased audiences with its first lead single, brings together three of Manuel de Falla’s most iconic works: El amor brujo, Noches en los jardines de España, and El sombrero de tres picos. Together, they offer a panoramic and nuanced exploration of the Andalusian musical imagination.


Captured Amidst the London Tour


Alma y Fuego was recorded in 2025 during the orchestra’s acclaimed international residency in London. This release is part of a strategic series of collaborations with Platoon, a partnership that has further solidified the ensemble’s global reach.


This new venture arrives on the heels of significant critical acclaim, including a 2026 Grammy Award nomination for their recording of Boléro—a testament to the orchestra’s artistic evolution and its commanding presence on the world stage.


Three Works, One Sonic Identity


The album proposes a journey through the diverse atmospheres of Falla’s oeuvre:


•El amor brujo: Drawing deep inspiration from Gipsy traditions and cante jondo, this work takes center stage. This version follows the definitive 1925 adaptation and features the raw, expressive power of cantaora Pasión Vega.


•Noches en los jardines de España (Nights in the Gardens of Spain): Performed by the renowned Javier Perianes, this piece unfolds with an evocative language and refined orchestral textures that recreate the lush soundscapes of Southern Spain.


•El sombrero de tres picos (The Three-Cornered Hat): The program concludes with the Second Suite, a work of immense rhythmic vitality that seamlessly integrates Spanish folk traditions into a symphonic context.


A Contemporary Gaze on Tradition


Renowned for his profound connection to musical roots, Dudamel approaches this production as a quest for the very essence of Falla’s work. He highlights the composer's unique ability to translate the grit of cante jondo into a sophisticated symphonic vernacular.


Alma y Fuego stands as a new milestone for the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, reaffirming its commitment to artistic excellence and its status as a vital force in the global recording industry.
